Hour Story Time (Black History Month) – Detroit

On Thursday, February 17, 2022, Hour Generation Foundation provided the 4th and 5th grade students at Ann Arbor Trail Magnet School in Detroit with books to read for Jerami Grant’s “Hour Story Time”. Jerami’s love for reading inspired the foundation to start “Hour Story Time” for Black History Month to get youth engaged in reading. The 4th graders will be reading “Though My Eyes”, by Ruby Bridges and the 5th graders will be reading “The Watsons Go to Birminingham-1963”, by Christopher Paul Curtis. These books were selected by the teachers for the students. Hour Generation Foundation purchased the books, pencils, journals and T-shirts for the students. Thanks to the Detroit Pistons for providing the drawstring bags for the students to put their books and other items inside. We met with them on Thursday morning and shared Jerami’s vision for the foundation and how that lined up with “Hour Story Time”. We told them to “Write The Power”, we provided the criteria for the essays for the books they were going to read. Jerami and the Board of Directors will be reading and judging the essays submitted by the students. The winners will be announced the week of March 21-25, 2022.We will have 2 winners from each grade. We will host a pizza party at the school for everyone who participates in “Hour Story Time”.
